LEGENDS OF AFRICA UNITE AT SOUTH COAST MUSIC FESTIVAL

Legends of the music world will converge in Port Shepstone this summer, to participate in the UGU District Council's Music Festival. The South Coast Music Festival, which runs from 17 – 19 December, has attracted participation from the very best of the South African Music world and is being referred to as “the biggest musical event ever to hit the South Coast”.

According to district mayor Clr. Cele, “The unification of UGU has further broadened the base of the festival as a whole, and the role of UGU, both in conceptual, financial and roll out will utilize the opportunity to promote our vision of 2010”.

He went on to say that, “We plan on coordinating a high profile event that will set new standards, and also offer our visitors world class entertainment to add to their holiday experience”.

The festival has catered for a broad spectrum of tastes, from the haunting and evocative sounds of Miriam Makeba to the spectacular world class Johnny Clegg and Mango Groove, not forgetting the vibrant Busi Mhlongo and Thandiswa Mazwai. All of this interspersed with local talent and much more will comprise a festival which is both truly eclectic and consummately exciting.

The commitment shown by main sponsor UGU Regional Council is of particular significance at a time when the pressures of modern life threaten the essential balance that needs to exist between pragmatic issues and material well being on the one hand, and the nurturing of artistic and spiritual values on the other.

It is in pursuance of this ideal that this years festival has been further enriched by the inclusion of our local artistic sector, providing a world class platform from which they can perform.

In addition, the participation and contribution of our youth has been promoted to a greater extent than ever before. Offering a follow on line up of artists such as Springbok Nude Girls, Cutting Jade, Prime Circle and Finklestein’s the festival will ensure that the youth market has been well catered for.

The festival will provide an opportunity at minimum cost (R80 for a weekend ticket) for the general local public as well as our visitors to be exposed to not only the more serious aspects surrounding world class music but also to enjoy the light hearted and fun projects which form an integral part of the festival.

Be sure to make your way down to a festival that will excite your senses, enlighten your spirit and leave you with a taste of true South African talent.
