Colonial Gem Opens on KZN South Coast

Kwazulu-Natal is soon to witness the opening of an exclusive and luxurious boutique hotel in Pennington, on the South Coast. This magnificent property will open its historic gates to visitors in October and is sure to attract both international and local tourists to one of the most beautiful regions of South Africa.

Surrounded by pristine coastal forest and the abundant flora and fauna of the Umdoni Nature Reserve, palatial Lynton Hall, presides over an expansive location only a stones throw from the sea.

Once the home of sugar baron Sir Frank Reynolds and now in its third century, this superb Henry Scott-Wilson home was built in 1895 and has been host to royalty, Prime Ministers, men of letters and captains of industry.

Now renovated and refurbished by Cheryl Goss, owner of the acclaimed country lodge, Hartford House, the d cor for the hall and its nine en-suite bedrooms is inspired by the cultural influence of the Indian people that came to Natal to work in the sugar industry. Much of the furnishings come from their ancient origins in Jodphur and Jaipur, perfectly complementing the Reynold’s family heirlooms. Locally crafted chandeliers hang comfortably alongside the spectacular antique Waterford crystal chandeliers which grace the grand entrance hall.

Lynton Hall’s incorporation into the Hartford House fold brings together two of Southern Africa’s few remaining great properties of the colonial era. For information and reservations call (033) 263 2713, fax (033) 263 2818 or email info@hartford.co.za
